Kobo – A Gift For the Whole Family

December 17, 2012

The first time I read on a Kobo I was skeptical – I like to turn a printed page. However, I quickly realized a Kobo e-reader helps entertain, engage and organize the whole family’s reading. A portable library, it offers books for kids and adults all-in-one device. A great addition to the activity bag for your next family road trip or just a jaunt to the waiting room at the doctor’s office – a Kobo e-reader is a gift for the whole family.

Back in my full-on #zombiemoms days I could have used a Kobo Glo to get me through the 3am feedings. It illuminates the screen and not the room so you can read through that 3am feeding without disturbing baby (or Dad). That was the loneliest time day or night for me and having a handheld device to connect me with over 1,000 books would have certainly helped pass the time.

Our last road trip activity bag was loaded with baby books and tween books to entertain the kids on the go as well as for the occasional rainy day at the cottage. The bag was le heavy! The Kobo Mini would have made my life easier  – at 134 grams (4.73 ounces) and with a 5″ touchscreen it is the lightest e-reader on the market. Perfect size for our activity bag (or even my diaper bag!).

It’s funny how kids are now organically attracted to screens. My children sigh when I tell them (every day) they have to do 20 minutes of reading…but when I allow that reading on a screen…there are absolutely no sighs at all…and actually the kids read longer (“ok…enough reading now…dinner’s on the table! Seriously. Dinner Time! Hello? Anyone? Bueller?”).

RELATED:  Kobo Glo and Kobo Mini eReaders were awarded the Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA) seal of approval – so you know they are family-friendly!

A Kobo e-reader entertains, promotes reading, is portable, and  is absolutely multi-generational. Truly a present for the whole family.

Disclosure: A Kobo was provided as hands-on experience for this post. The opinions are my own.

In some aspects the kobo is a great invention, like easy to download, no more trips to the library and they are cheaper than books. The bad part they’re bad for your eyes and having physical books helps the economy because they have to be made and then shipped to stores. So you have the makers, the drivers and then the store employees. That’s a lot of jobs !
