Sleepwalking Nights

April 10, 2008

Who knew the child you were growing would be a sleepwalker. Could it be genetic? Chance? There is probably a study somewhere (there is always a study). The reality of having a sleepwalking child can truly be a concern.

My child sleepwalks UP bunk bed ladders. My child goes to the bathroom (in the bathroom) while sleeping. My child has night terrors that jolt me out of my sleep — but she remembers nothing in the morning.

How do you cope with a sleepwalker? You take the bunk beds apart and place them side by side. You ensure pathways are clear. You remain patient and empathetic when you are awoken by chilling screams. You make sure they can’t unlock the front door by themselves.

I must find that study..
