Birthday Parties – Shaving Cream Art

November 7, 2008 1 Comment

This is a fun activity for preschoolers and school aged kids. It’s messy and uses Papa’s shaving cream (which causes huge giggles!). Remember that food colouring stains EVERYTHING so cover the table (cover the kids too if you think they are clumsy at all). The video below shows how to make shaving cream art with…

When Food is the Enemy at Birthday Parties

August 18, 2008 1 Comment

We once went to a birthday party where the birthday child had a sever peanut allergy . When the (homemade peanut-free) cake came out one child pulled out a container of dates and fruit. “He can’t have cake – no refined sugar“. Some studies have shown that children with autism can benefit from gluten-free, casein-free…

Do you have a hard time saying "No"? I do. And wit Do you have a hard time saying "No"? I do. And with my recent concussion...I've had a lesson of setting (and sticking to) boundaries.

Also, I'm learning kids need reminders of boundaries too. (Auto-regulation with virtual school is a CHALLENGE here!)

There are times to do things and there are times NOT to do things. There are times to say yes and times when it is totally OK to say no.

What kind of boundaries are you setting?
Daughter was in a funk yesterday so I asked her if Daughter was in a funk yesterday so I asked her if she wanted to colour my hair. Because pandemic.

Navigating emotions is a challenge now (I believe @ericaehm has written about this). Teens are cut off from routine, in-person school, social circles. And add in being home with parents and siblings all the time. It's tough for all.

Luckily here, we seem to be rotating feeling the funk so when one is down someone else boosts them up.

Like "hey wanna colour my hair?!".

It's too dark in my opinion...but who cares..it's only hair...and I'm not going anywhere. And it was something different to do in a day.

Available at public libraries and bookstores.

STOP READING THIS BOOK is a fun picture book where the book challenges the reader to stop reading. Along the way, the reader meets elements of books like hero's, villans and challenges to overcome.

THE ADVENTURES OF GRANDMASAURUS is about a Grandma who magically transforms into different dinosaurs. Lots of dino facts, non-binary characters, and inter-generational endearment.
