Need more green and less concrete? Looking for a outdoor space to enjoy in Toronto this weekend? Plan to visit TD Friends of the Environment Pop-Up Park June 20 and 21 and enjoy free interactive activities, games, live performance and more.
TD Friends of the Environment Pop-Up Park
So what’s happening exactly? Think: parking lot turned park.
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF) is transforming a portion of Church Street (Church and Alexander Streets) into a pop-up park as part of The Festival in the Village from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on June 20 and 21.
Open to the community, the park will offer free interactive activities and lawn games, as well as a performance by Sofonda Cox, to encourage everyone to come out and play. Visitors will be surrounded by native grasses and trees, log seating and tables, while they enjoy these outdoor activities.
“We know that green spaces are vital to our well-being and our communities,” said Mary Desjardins, Executive Director, TD FEF. “These pop-up parks are designed to surprise and delight visitors, and to bring to life the benefits of healthy, vibrant green spaces. Plus, what better way to celebrate 25 years of TD FEF than by bringing parks to people?”
I know green spaces mean a lot to my family. Green space is where we play. Relax. Disconnect from devices and connect with each other.
And if those photos of the Calgary and Surrey pop-up parks are any suggestion of what is to come to Toronto this weekend – I forecast an event of inspiration. Wouldn’t you want to walk that rolling deck around that beautiful greenery? Wouldn’t you love to sit on a log under an umbrella and enjoy the green with your family? I would!
#GreenWhereYouLive initiative marks 25 years of greening communities nationwide
