Tips to Manage Nighttime Wetting and Maximize Sleep GoodNites Bedtime Pants
One of my children (who will remain nameless for privacy) was a night wetter. It frustrated him/her. It frustrated me. QuietQuite honestly, I wish I had read these tips from Child and Family Therapist, Michele Kambolis earlier in my Momhood. Michele has spent much of her time discussinglots of experience supporting families experiencing nighttime wetting and has rounded up some helpful tips for parents; here are a few that I found to be most helpful! Back to school means more routines and an increased need for a full night’s rest to ensure your child is focused at school, learning, and growing. These tips help you and your child manage nighttime wetting so it doesn’t interrupt their sleep, which is so important during this time.
- Avoid over-focusing on nighttime wetting.: Focusing too much attention on nighttime wetting can send the message that this is a problem that needs to be fixed rather than outgrown. While it’s helpful to encourage your child to have trips to the bathroom before bed, hydrate during the day and take only sips of water at night, taking your child to multiple doctors, using reinforcement systems and programs to shape your child out of nighttime wetting simply isn’t effective and may cause added stress. It is important to keep in mind that nighttime wetting is an involuntary process that your child has no control over. So, have a non-reaction reaction regardless of whether they wake up wet or dry.
- Encourage independence: Your child may already be preparing for bed on their own, so you want to empower them to maintain that independence. Storing GoodNites Bedtime Pants alongside their PJ’s allows them to simply slip them on by themselves as part of their bedtime routine. Knowing they have the tools to help them stay dry and sleep uninterrupted through the night can go a long way towards instilling confidence. From there, keep a close eye on your child’s Bedtime Pant supply. It can be difficult for a child to see their parent rushing to the store at night because they are all out of Bedtime Pants.
Parent Club tips to help parents help their children get a good night’s rest
- Create a regular sleep schedule: While we all want to hang on to the longer days of summer, programming your child’s sleep routine well in advance of school will make those first few weeks much easier.
- Put technology to be well before your child: Putting iPads, computers and other electronics away an hour-and-a-half before bed will help ensure your child’s brain system is calm, relaxed, and ready for sleep.
