So you know my plan about taking the holidays off to hang out with my family?…funny how plans often fall mid-flight…dear son was admitted to Sick Kids hospital.
I won’t share all of his story (because it’s his story and I have a thing about putting my kids’ stories on the blog…I mean…they will be teens one day and they might not want their stories on Mom’s blog). But I can share my part of the story…
I was (again and always) surprised at the good friends who called, texted, and emailed to see if there was anything they could do. I was so quick to “Mom” the Sick Kid that I forgot that there was a whole ‘nother parent who wanted to be in the hospital room too – and kids at home who needed me…after a nudge (really it was more of a GO HOME)…my husband and I swapped places.
Dec. 24th at noon we were told it would be “highly unlikely” he would be discharged in the next 24 hours. Fast forward through me crying in the gift shop trying to find a present for him to open Christmas morning. Fast forward through my sob-fest in the minivan because the Chinese Food store refused to serve me because they were too busy and I had my girls waiting in the van; waiting to take Christmas Eve dinner down to the hospital room so we could all be together. Let’s fast forward through all that because we got a Hail Mary Pass…
7pm. Christmas Eve. I got the phone call from my husband DISCHARGED FOR CHRISTMAS! After we had ham sandwiches as our holiday feast and put the cookies out for Santa and snuggled into our beds…I took a moment to realize it was the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER. We were home. On the road to back-to-healthy. Together.
I realized the good that I take for granted everyday 🙂
As always comments appreciated and links to your own #WordlessWednesday posts most welcome!
