65 Indoor Activity Ideas for Kids
For younger kids: sensory games are always a hit. Fill the kitchen sink with water and bubbles and supervise them standing on a chair “washing” the dishes (my son could do this for hours). Fill a big bowl with uncooked rice or uncooked oatmeal and allow them to scoop and pour. Finger painting is always a hit (put down a paint mat or newspaper to make clean up easier).
For active kids: get their bodies busy. Freeze dance is a great way to let loose while keeping things in control. Pretend to be an animal (roar all you like). Indoor bowling will keep them busy (you can use plastic milk jugs as pins and a soft ball). Balloon tennis is a great back and forth game too. Indoor obstacle course is easy enough to set up with chairs, pillows, and tape.
For older kids: engage them. Supplies to make a comic book. Read a book. Make a word poem using magazine cut outs. Make a collage (also known as an inspiration or mood board) using magazine cut outs.
Then you can also incorporate a younger sibling/older sibling activity. Like have the older sibling make a treasure hunt for the younger sibling. Have the younger sibling hide something for a hide and seek. Have an older sibling make a sock puppet to entertain a younger sibling.
