Recently, I have been searching for Birthday Party Ideas for my son. I certainly wanted easy birthday party ideas (as much as I love Pinterest and Martha Stewart…I’m no Martha). Since we all love to capture those special birthday party moments in photos, I was eager to learn how to make an easy photo backdrop for a birthday party…
I was inspired by A Perfect Photo Backdrop DIY on the new Fisher-Price Little People First Birthday site — this was my starting point.
Fisher-Price has partnered with Nancy Zaretsky, a professional party planner specializing in super fun kids’ birthday parties. From fun themes and exciting ideas, to creative decorations and playful activities, littlepeoplefirstbirthday.ca will be your new one stop party planning destination each month!
Though the tutorial for the perfect photo backdrop was easy enough…I decided to try my own creative spin on creating a DIY photo backdrop using stuff I already had in the house.
DIY Photo Backdrop
You will need:
- baby blanket
- chair
- Unfold baby blanket.
- Drape baby blanket across back of chair.
- That’s all. Really.
The tutorial for A Perfect Photo Backdrop used a dowel and ribbons to make a birthday party photo backdrop (which is a great idea). However, I have no where to hang a dowel in my dining room so I adapted the idea to fit my party space. You could certainly use ribbons (as per the tutorial). What about scarves? Neck ties? Table cloth? I love the idea of having a cool backdrop for those special birthday party pictures (especially a 1st birthday high chair moments)…and you could certainly create your own with ease!

Birthday Party Ideas
One of my favourite features of this new site are the FREE Fisher-Price’s printables…
- Checklist (I always use a checklist – especially for the birthday party food)
- Birthday Card (good to print out a few to have on hand)
- Invitations (so great to have a free printable)
- Gift Tags (I am so doing gift tags from now on!)
- Door Sign (let your party peeps know they’ve arrived)
- Character Bunting (these are those banner flags you see on Pinterest but never know how to make)
- Place Cards (helpful if you have a few kids you need to strategically sit)
- Goody Bags (aka loot bags for a 1st birthday party guest – practical and affordable)
- Colouring Sheets (nice for older siblings at the party)
- Thank you Cards (Grandma’s and great aunts love them)

Absolutely fabulous ideas for a Birthday party. Photo backdrop sounds like a great stuff to try & its just fun, where the results could be amazing as well. My husband uses Fur clothes in different color as backdrop usually, which makes the photo super gorgeous.

I know quite a few food photographers who use sheets they find at thrift stores for back drops. They cut one piece for a back drop, then they will cut smaller pieces for napkins and such.
